投稿摘要: Background As the novel COVID-19, stands for coronavirus disease 2019, transmission countinue to develope globally, the CDC in Taiwan recommends that people should keep 1.5-meter social distancing and wear the disposable medical or fabric mask in public to prevent COVID-19 infection. The monitoring of mask-wearing and body temperature at the gate in our hospital had been established from 30 January 2020 to identify the patients with fever. The restricted access to hospitals to be gradually lifted for general population due to no new locally COVID-19 cases from 12 April 2020. We would like to evaluate the rate of visitors wearing the masks properly while access to hospital. Methods We determined the correctness of the standard mask-wearing based on the guidelines released by CDC. People should wear the medical mask with the water resistant side outwards and fit to cover the nose and mouth while in hospital. We observe the patterns of people with mask and calculate the exact numbers by tally counter at three main entrances in our hospital among different periods. Results Totally, 8,775 visitors were recorded from 3 different entrance. The 515 errors (515/8775, 5.87%) in mask-wearing including nose or mouth exposed (311/515, 60.4%), wearing the mask with the wrong side out (82/515, 15.9%), no mask-wearing or fabric mask (37/515, 7.2%; 22/515, 4.3%) were observed. The completed mask-wearing after pre-recorded audio message reminding the visitors nearby the entrance were also discovered (63/515, 12.2%). The highest proportion of incorrect mask-wearing is nose exposed. The major reason for nose exposed is that accustomed or prolonged mask use make discomfort and breathing difficulty. Moreover, we found that the patients could not distinguish which side of the mask is the front, especially light-colored masks. The enough supply of masks decreased the occurrence of no mask-wearing. Conclusion In summary, the inappropriate wearing of the mask could decrease filtration and increase the risk of infection. The correct wearing of surgical mask and measurement of body temperature by infra-red temperature detector is required before entering the hospital to avoid the potential outbreak. Finally, we suggested that health education or guide poster about correct wearing of mask should be performed in front of hospital.
