提升手術室環境清潔成效

Improving operating room environmental cleaning efficiency

Background: Operating rooms often feel a lot of pressure for quick turnover times to help increase the number of surgeries they execute per day. Therefore, adequate disinfection of operating rooms is essential. We aimed to determine the change in both the thoroughness of environmental cleaning and staff training, improved cleaning technique, and audit of frequent touch-point cleaning.
Methods: This study was performed from April through September 2020 at medical center, a 2,600-bed teaching hospital. The facility has 53 operating rooms. Cleaning of operating rooms was coordinated by the perioperative nursing director, who evaluated cleaning practices performed by operating room technicians between surgical procedures and by environmental services staff at the end of the day (terminal cleaning). The administrators who supervised cleaning practices remained consistent throughout the study. Prospective environmental study using feedback with UV markers.
Results: In this study, the proportion of UV markers removed assay was introduced for measurement of surface cleanliness. Significant improvement in the UV markers assay pass rate was noted after implementation of the above infection control strategies (from 50% to 96%, improvement of 46%). The pass rates were all above 90% three months after this study.
Conclusions: The quality of environmental hygiene in operating rooms can be effectively maintained through development of cleaning standards and efficient tool management enabled by teamwork.
